"Love her? Seriously?!" Her mom exclaimed, eyebrows shooting up.
Ayaka flinched, taken aback by her mom's outburst. She was shaking, but her gaze was unwavering, locking eyes with her mother.
Little did they know, Himari stood outside the door. A hint of sadness crept onto her face. She hadn't even had the chance to knock. Feeling wounded, she slipped away from Ayaka's doorstep, tears silently streaming down her cheeks.
"Mom, is it really so wrong to love someone deeply and genuinely? Does gender really matter?" Ayaka's voice quivered with emotion. "I love Himari. For the first time, I feel truly seen, truly myself when I'm with her."
Ayaka's mom fell silent, her face a mask of contemplation. It dawned on her how deeply Ayaka felt for Himari, the intensity clear in her daughter's eyes.
"Being in love with another girl..." She trailed off, lost in thought, while Ayaka wept quietly before her.
"I can't afford to make the same mistakes again. I can't lose something precious to me," she mused inwardly.
Moments later, Ayaka's mom pulled her into a tender embrace. Ayaka's eyes widened in surprise before she returned the hug, tears still flowing.
"I'm so sorry," her mom whispered, stroking her daughter's hair. "I shouldn't have been so harsh. I know you truly love her."
Suddenly, a memory flashed before Ayaka's mom's eyes-a past love, with another girl.
