When you see things as pipe dreams, you begin seeing things as ill fated as death itself. This is how Max sees his life. Gaming and reading are his only comforts in this world of pain. Things will change when a beast of fictional proportions shows up at his doorstep. What's worse is that it considers him its parent! Max's life is flipped upside down as he forms a bond with the beast and creates a deeper rift with his family than ever before. Not to mention the government wants the animal for research and isn't hesitating to use lethal options.
