when Darian decides to break up with Serena, she is devastated. He goes off to college. Inuyasha was in the same boat.

Serena believed that she could win Darien back. Inuyasha had the same thoughts in mind. but however as the two became somewhat friends with each other through their own friends through school, they began realizing the best way to retract their exes is for them to see them with new people, to think they're not available to them anymore.

so Inuyasha and Serena begin this pertain dating plot, but they soon become friends with benefits.
