(cover art not mine!!) The unspeakable is spoken into existence. Connor is violated, and he separates his life into the Before, the During, and the After, and begins his journey of learning to live again. Despite having the entire offense in his database, and all the DNA officers could possibly need under his fingernails and stained on his synthetic skin, it takes far too long for the offenders to be reprimanded. Court rooms are unreasonably cruel when the victim is not human, he finds, and it is deeply unsettling. It only furthers his loathing for the After and longing for the Before. Android victims are uncommon, Hank reminds him of that, but why is that such a reason to sling words at him he can not even begin to utter? That is a question his extensive database of information can not answer. Hank is much different than Connor. Human; a father. Two things the android previously yearned to be, though now he is unsure. "Human victims are much more common," but why does that matter? Human or not he was stripped of all that he had grown to know in 15 agonizing minutes that felt more like hours. Hank is there to reassure the traumatized creature, and remind him that the During is over, that man is not going to hurt him, and he must make the most of the After. With the help he so desperately needs, Connor must learn to not only survive, but to live.
