Mavis Ladair, the Crown Princess and future Queen of the Vermillion Enclave, is riding high on her career as a superheroine to the nearby city of Cluj-Napoca in Romania, after having successfully convinced the Enclave to reveal itself to the outside world and fostering peaceful relationships between humans and vampires; along for the ride are her husband Garson, her brother Theo Ladair, her adoptive sister Lily Ladair, her parents Lord Balfort Ladair and Lady Amber Ladair, her grandmother Agnes, and Agnes's steward. 

However, after the Vermillion Enclave holds a party commemorating two years since making peace with the humans, the vampires soon discover that their precious Bloodstone-an item whose magic is responsible for granting every vampire their own visage when they come of age-has gone missing, and without it, the vampires begin gradually reverting back to their original forms.....becoming practically indistinguishable from each other as a result. Now, with the Vermillion Enclave's diversity hanging in the balance, it's up to Mavis Ladair, her husband Garson, and the rest of the royal family to locate the Bloodstone and return it to the Enclave grounds before each and every vampire ends up looking and sounding the same forever.
