Loren lives in a city of magic. She uses her innate abilities as a Runner to navigate the strange worlds outside her home. Few other people possess the skill or bravery to venture into those worlds, the Sometimes, where the forces of wild magic swirl dream and reality together.

Now even stranger things are happening. Buildings are winking out of existence, unending snow is burying the city, and five suspicious deaths are linked back to Loren. Bes, the closest thing the city has to a cop, brings her on an investigation which tests her friendships, reveals her secrets, and forces her to reckon with the dark nature of her own magic.
