NASA(=アメリカ航空宇宙局)は9日、人類を月に送る「アルテミス計画」を延期すると発表しました。

「アルテミス計画」は、1972年のアポロ17号以来、再び人類を月面に送るもので、長期滞在できる拠点を建設し、飲み水などの資源を開発する計画です。

第1弾として2022年末に月探査のための無人宇宙船「オリオン」が月周回を行い、有人飛行に向けたデータを収集しています。第2弾として、今年後半に宇宙飛行士を乗せて月の上空までの往復を予定していましたが、NASAは9日、来年9月に延期すると発表しました。第3弾の有人での月面着陸は、2026年9月以降になるということです。

NASAは、「宇宙飛行士の安全は最優先事項だ」とした上で、安全確保のため様々なテストを行うとしています。

アルテミス計画には日本人宇宙飛行士も少なくとも2人参加する調整が進められています。新人宇宙飛行士候補の米田あゆさんが参加する可能性もあります。
