Lucknow registers its first season win

IPL debutant Mayank Yadav turned an improbable legend after he got three urgent wickets to assist Lucknow Super Monsters to their most memorable season with victory on Saturday.

Lucknow beat Punjab Lords by 21 runs in their home ground after they posted 199-8, fueled by Quinton de Kock's fifty and a fast fire 42 by substitute captain Nicholas Pooran.

In reply, Punjab completed on 178-5 regardless of a 102-run opening stand between captain Shikhar Dhawan (70) and Jonny Bairstow (42).

Yadav, who sent down this season's quickest conveyance of 156 km/h, broke the stand with his lady wicket of Bairstow and returned figures of 3-27 to swing back the force in support of Lucknow.

"Mayank's was the tale of the evening," expressed Pooran of his man-of-the-match entertainer.

"It was a motivating exhibition. Each individual in the group is blissful. He had an opportunity and performed this evening. Was great watching him from mid-off."

Delhi-conceived Yadav went to Lucknow for $24,000 last year yet neglected to turn up after a physical issue cost him the whole 2023 season.

Yadav returned from a 10-run first over to get Bairstow out with a short ball after the batsman miscued it to deep mid-wicket.

The 21-year-old got two additional wickets to smooth the resistance.
