Chosen By the Sea

Bree Matthews had a simple life. Her family owned a decent house in the suburbs of Nevada, a state whose borders she had never left. She was finishing up her senior in high school, had a small, closely knit group of friends whom she had known since she was a child and a sister who went to Hawaii Pacific University that teased her relentlessly, but they loved each other nonetheless. She liked her life the way it was. Stable. Calm. Predictable.

That life was washed away with the death of her mother and father after their ship, the Saint Marie, sank into the depths of the Ocean. Now, Bree only felt empty, a shell of the person she once was. She no longer sleeps peacefully, tormented nightly by endless dreams about being dragged down into the water and mysterious symbols only to wake up breathless and drenched in sweat. Forced to move to Hawaii to remain with her sister and only living relative, Bree is torn away from her home in Nevada and the only life she had ever known. Unbeknownst to her, the death of her parents tied her life to a destiny that she is unable to escape, and her fate is caught in the riptide.
