Scarlet is an addict, at college studying medicine , she grew up in an abusive household with an alcoholic father, and is a somewhat antisocial and quiet character. Alex grew up in the same small town as Scarlet and , they share similar experiences of abuse. He is in a group of friends who many consider disruptive or rebellious, but these kids are all commonly flawed and have a strong bond and sense of loyalty to eachother, they save Scarlet from herself and her addiction by accepting her.
