Amanda Cartwig, a 17-year-old delinquent who was sentenced to a year in prison for the murder of a guard, is sent to Earth to see if it can support life. People are afraid of her and her capabilities, so they avoid approaching her. John Murphy is not included in that, though. Both of them are the outsiders, the unwanted.

The 100 are forced to build a camp from the ground up with no help from any adults.
