"After you're done with everything here on this island. Would you like to maybe- join our crew? For real this time." His eyes light up with hope. "I don't think I'll make it before you leave-" You look away, not bearing to face his piercing stare anymore. "I can wait-" he interrupts, letting go of your hand as quickly as he took it. "I mean uhh... me and the crew... we can wait for you," he stutters out. "This place seems pretty cool. I wouldn't mind staying here for a few more days." "We'll see," you softly chuckle in an attempt to hide your blank eyes. "I mean, who else is supposed to save you when you're halfway beaten to death?" Hearing his halfhearted laugh sent a striking pain through your chest. You swallow hard to keep a sob from escaping your throat as you realise this might be the last time you ever hear it. Tears roll down your cheeks, blurring your vision as you lock eyes with the freckled man you've been dreaming about for the past months. The familiar warmth tingles on your skin as he gently cups your face, his thumb carefully wiping away the tears on your cheek. What Are You? | MarAce - Marco x Ace | One Piece
Marco wasn't Human. He was something different. Something you'd find in a fairy tale. Something that wasn't supposed to be real, only in legends and myths. He has to fit in with the humans. He has to study and learn how humans work. He has to explore the world to know what it's like and how things work in nature. He had so much to learn. Only one person knows about what he is and that's Edward Newgate, his captain, and his father. He hopes he can keep it that way. He doesn't need anyone to know what he really is. He'd be worth a lot if people found out what he was. Since he wants to fit in he has to come up with a reason why he has powers. When he learned about Devil Fruits and their powers, he came up with the excuse that he ate a devil fruit, the Tori Tori no Mi: model Phoenix. Though as he learned more about these devil fruits he had to pretend that he couldn't swim and seastone affected him when it was created not long after the fruits were made. He is a Phoenix. A creature no one needs to know is actually real. But when a certain freckled beauty showed up claiming to take his father's head, it was hard to keep his animalistic side of him in check. This story is a Modern AU and it's set in high school. Kid being the 'bad boy' of the class and Marco being your art teacher. This is sort of an experiment, I was requested to do an Xreader about one of these characters and I also got a request to do a story about a cheater. SO; I've done a mixture of the two.
