Notes: Hello. This fic is very violent and a bit sad. If you don't like broken relationships or broken love. Please do not read. I am not responsible for your triggers and I am writing what I want to write. Thankyou enjoy! This was a commission piece.... Please be mindful Mark Hoffman had been in a tumultuous relationship with his wife for years. It always started the same way, with a few simple words or a look that ignited an explosive fire. The couple would then start an argument that quickly escalated into a physical altercation. They would hit and hurt each other, making eachother go crazy, and it seemed like neither of them would ever give in. But then, something strange would happen. The fight would suddenly end and the two would be entwined in a passionate embrace. Kisses and caresses would follow as the two vented their frustrations through a passionate session of lovemaking. Afterwards, the two would lay in each other's arms and feel a strange sense of peace. They had no idea why or how this happened, but it was their reality. They had both become so used to it that it had become a part of their relationship. In the morning, they would wake up and start the cycle all over again. Mark and his wife were stuck in an abusive relationship that always ended in sex. It was a cycle that neither of them knew how to break.

"Light up my darkness," he murmured against her bare flesh. His fingers trailed up her arm, leaving a blazing fire beneath them. His lips pressed softly against her shoulder and her eyes fluttered closed, accepting his touch. "Let go and I'll take away all of the pain." She desperately wanted to free herself from the torture of the heat, of the shift, of the sadness, but she pushed his firm chest away from her. She yearned to finally fulfill her place among the divine. She desired to guide and protect the species. She wished to eliminate the Challengers. The longer she endured the pain, the more power she would attain to help her fulfill her responsibilities. To the men who watched her ascend, it looked as if she was interacting with thin air, but she knew he was there with her. She smiled softly at him, caressing his cheek. "My Darkness, let the pain fester within me. I crave it." * The Betrayal is a part of The Marking Trilogy and cannot be read as a stand-alone book. The Marking must be read first.* Cover by @Finding_Bria
