Best friends Raniya and Lee, two almost 8th graders, deal with life as they get ready to go into their 8th grade year. They spend the summer together running around like children do. Then they notice a family moving into a neighborhood that they frequently play near. It's halfway through the year when the boy transfers in, a little older than them both but somehow shorter. He's loud and childish, and gets made fun of a lot because of how much he talks in class. Kori means well and has a bit of a funny accent that not many kids have heard of before, which also gets him picked on. He approaches them in their freshman year and...asks to be Raynia's friend. Interesting choice on his part.
