Cidney Thompson embarks on a journey 2000+ miles across the United States with her best friends for a Battle of the Bands that could change their lives. While on their journey, they discover how friends can help them resolve fears, problems, and conflicts- and show how family is what you make of it. The group wants nothing more than to win this competition. They're tired of their mediocre lives making minimum wage. All they want to do, more than anything, is to perform music. They experience so much over two weeks, traveling across the country from Millwood, Kansas, to San Francisco, California. So many hijinks happen, but in the end, the group wins. Their prize is a record deal with MK Publishing, and with that, this chapter of their lives closes, and a new one opens.

"Why did it end terribly?" His jaw clenched while contemplating whether to tell me or not "Because I was distracted." I raised an eyebrow in confusion "Distracted by what?" He looked at me directly in the eyes before answering, "You." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Avery is beautiful, carefree and outspoken. Well, she used to be. She used to thrive on adrenaline and the only way she could fulfil that need was by riding her motorcycle. Avery hasn't exactly lived the best life. Determined to give her sister a proper upbringing, they escape to a new town and start a new life together, giving up on everything she loved in the process. Afraid of her past coming back to haunt her, she refuses to let anyone into her life. Her only focus is to look after her sister and get through senior year. Centuries after the Fall, the United States has been wiped away. The crumbling remains of the great American empire are home now only to savage, lawless tribes and packs of ravening Damned-the twisted children of the apocalypse. Most of those few who survived humanity's destruction spend their short lives in a violent struggle for survival. But some light still flickers in the darkness: the Blessed of Bountiful live in seclusion, relying on walls both physical and spiritual to protect them from the Desolation that their world has become. Among them are the Saints, those few men and women born with superhuman abilities that the Blessed see as gifts from God. The violent apostate tribes of the Northeast Kingdom have always been a danger, but up until recently its small size and the vigilance of its people have made Bountiful an unappealing target. As attacks on the community grow harsher and more frequent, however, even the steadfast Blessed are forced to start preparing for the worst. With her home's very existence threatened, seventeen year old Ever Oaks, a Saint with the power to heal, is forced to make a difficult choice, one that may come to define her people's future... Exile was a semi-finalist in Mark Lawrence's Great Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off (#SPFBO). Fantasy Faction said it was "extremely cool," and Bookish Lifestyle called it "more than just a story, a journey and an experience." When I'm asked about it, I often describe it as "X-Men meets The Walking Dead." In addition to reading it here for free, you can buy Exile in e-book or paperback on Amazon.com.

BEFORE YOU READ- DISCLAIMER! The main character is blunt, hates life and is very vulgar and hateful towards everyone and everything . However there is a reason for this. She is strong-headed and short-tempered, ill-mannered and disrespectful (though some may say in a loveable way). If this isn't for you, then I wouldn't suggest reading this book. It's about character development and personal growth. - Kody Lawrence is not normal. On the contrary, she's everything but. When the hot-headed, short-tempered, rude new girl arrives in the small town of Raven Hollow, Maine, most people are put off by her unexpected and -considering her horrible attitude and pessimism- unwanted appearance. However, despite her constant locked jaw, clenched fists and cold glare, Lilah Johansson, Kody's appointed 'buddy', can't help but want to be her new friend in spite of their not-so-impressive first impression. But Lilah is not to be sold separately, and with the friendly redhead comes four boys with charming smiles and welcoming arms that hide their own secrets and covered-up lies. Amongst the group of five, Dakota Black is the one who stands out with his calculating eyes and kind heart, and while Kody has no intention to stick around longer than a few months, he might just be the one to change that. With a duffel bag of money, a box-filled with different identities, a pocket full of problems and a closet stacked to the brim with secrets, Kody's quiet and peaceful Senior year takes a couple of unexpected turns. The only question is: Are they for better or for worse? ___ (Small disclaimer: The first few chapters aren't the greatest, but I took some time off from writing this book and came back to it when I'd gotten a bit better with writing, so if you can get past the rocky start, hopefully you won't regret it). ___ Re-published: 7.4.18 (7th of April) Finished: 9.3.20 (9th of March) Currently editing and correcting mistakes / plot holes.
