When Sam is laid off from her work at a publishing firm, she scrambles to find a place to live in after discovering she is getting evicted from her apartment for not paying her rent on time. She finds a new home, one that caters well to her liking. The catch? It was way over her budget.

Nick is a gambling man who is in it for the money, but soon regrets his habits after a debt collector threatens to kill him if he doesn't pay off the money he owes. And of course, Nick can't do that. At least, not without a little help.

So, Nick and Sam stage a fake engagement, hoping to split the wedding gifts they receive and make money off of them. It's a foolproof plan and a win-win situation. Right?
