In a small, conservative town where conformity is prized, 16-year-old Alex finds himself struggling with his identity as a gay teenager. He's known for years that he's different from his friends, but he's kept his true self hidden, fearing judgment and rejection. The only person who seems to understand him is his best friend, Jamie, who's always been there to support him. One day, Alex's life takes an unexpected turn when he discovers that his long-time crush, the popular and seemingly straight Ethan, has been secretly visiting an LGBTQ+ support group in a nearby town. Intrigued and filled with newfound hope, Alex decides to attend the support group meetings as well, using a pseudonym to protect his identity. As Alex navigates the complexities of his feelings for Ethan and the challenges of keeping his true self hidden, he begins to form a deep connection with the group's diverse and supportive members. Along the way, he discovers that people aren't always who they appear to be, and the town he thought he knew so well holds hidden secrets of its own. As Alex and Ethan's paths cross more frequently, they develop a unique bond that transcends friendship. Together, they embark on a journey of self-discovery, acceptance, and love. However, they must navigate the obstacles of a judgmental society, the fear of being outed, and their own inner struggles. "Hidden Colors of the Heart" is a heartwarming LGBTQ+ romance that explores themes of identity, acceptance, and the power of love to break down barriers. It reminds readers that sometimes, the most unexpected people can become the greatest sources of support and love in our lives, even in the most unlikely of places.

"What if I'm not one?" I asked, my body wound tight with tension. "One what?" he asked, his voice soft and low. I hesitated. Was I ready? I wanted to tell him so badly. Wanted to scream it from the fucking rooftops. But there would be no going back if I allowed the words to spill out into the world. Telling myself I didn't need someone else's validation, that I knew myself well enough to know with absolute certainty that I was trans was all good and well in principle. But lying here underneath my bed, with my best friend's body pressed so close to mine I could feel his warm breath on my face, I felt those convictions slip through my fingers. Danny's rejection would break me. In a fundamental way. "One what?" he repeated the question, scooting so close to me the tip of his nose brushed mine. Dust motes danced around us, suspended in mid air, teetering on the brink of this momentous feeling wrapping itself around us. I squeezed my eyes shut, pushing down the rush of anxiety trying to drown me. His nose bumped mine again and his breath ghosted over my lips. I opened my eyes and stared unblinkingly into his. 'A girl', I wanted to say, even though I knew the words would taste sour in my mouth, 'what if I'm not a girl?' -------------------------------------- Sean and Danny have been next door neighbours and best friends since they were six years old. Jamie learns a truth about him which leads to a shattering truth about their religion, or rather, their lack of it. The boy has good morals, a steadfast belief in God, and a kind exterior. But when he falls down to his darkest point, he loses all faith in God and in being happy. The one to pick him up just happens to be Jamie. Jaime works to return their friend to his former happy, easygoing and warm-hearted self. They try to teach him how to be happy and have a positive spin on things, even though they aren't very good at doing that themselves. Can these two keep their friendship when the odd boy has no belief anything can be light again? Read to find out.
