The story takes place when Cardan is being crowned as the high king of Elfhame.
He gets crowned so Oak (Jude's little brother) can go to the mortal world and grow up in peace but as he grows up he learns about ruling he decides that it isn't something for him. Because of this Jude gets worried that Cardan will remain on the throne and do terrible things once their 'deal' is done but one day everything changes even more.
