He was one of the leaders of the Jalali movement. The middle of the 16th century - the cities of Turkey, Azerbaijan, etc. in the 17th century. the territories were covered by the peasant movement. One of the Jalali groups in Azerbaijan was headed by Koroglu. According to the legend, Koroglu's real name was Rovshan. There is very little written information about Koroglu and his comrades in arms. Some researchers note that Koroglu was active in Khorasan, others in Anatolia, and most in Azerbaijan.

In oral folk literature, the events related to Koroglu's name became legendary and found their reflection in "Koroglu epic". With the epic, the historical line of the series of events and personalities was broken, Koroglu's fact that he was a great warrior, a talented poet who wrote beautiful poems and fell in love was preserved as a historical fact. Most of the personalities mentioned in the epic (Giziroglu Mustafa Bey, Kosa Safar, Jafar Pasha, Hasan Pasha, etc.) are historical figures. The main stronghold of Koroglu was the Çanlibel castle (there are many castles called "Çanlibel" in different areas). Çanlibel is mentioned as a settlement in sources dating back to the 19th century.

In A. Tabrizli's "Book of Histories", the names of more than 20 leaders of Jalali gangs, including Koroglu, are specially mentioned. Koroglu's courage and valor in his battles turned him into a national hero, a friend of the poor and an enemy of oppressors.

Many poems of the love poet Koroglu are preserved in the manuscripts of the Azerbaijan Institute of Manuscripts
