29. Chained by One Chained
A little more political than my usual work (unavoidable considering the source material) but nevertheless a fine piece of work. A marked improvement to some of my earlier, more forced dialogue from when I was first starting out. As I've mentioned, nothing grabs my interest in witting quite like two people talking.
The prompt for today had a fair deal of potential and I considered quite a few ideas in the wake of it, but ultimately I settled on this one. I had the idea for a more gritty rebellion story, which I've written a few bits and pieces for from time to time. The most important part of these kinds of stories is the types of people on both sides, and how you portray those who stand with or against a regime. A veritable toy store for harsh debate and clashing dialogue.

Over the Wall: A Collection of Short Stories (NaNoWriMo 2014)
This year for NaNoWriMo, I am writing a short story anthology. It will feature thirty or so short stories (my hope is to write one per day to fulfill my 1,667 per day word requirement) about varying things. Each morning, I will randomly select a number between one and thirty and I will look at the corresponding list of first lines I will have. I will take that line and write a short story using it and then the next day I will do the process over again (some stories might relate to each other, some might not). Anyway I will edit the story for that day and post it here. It may not be posted exactly on the corresponding day, but in the end there will be thirty short stories. P.S. But he has his modern-day wife with him, who has her own connections to this place and time, and things get more complicated by the day. Will he be able to figure out how to get his wife back home? Creator: Friend or Foe?
This story began as a NaNoWriMo 2012 work, with no planning, and even less idea of plot. I learned from that experience that I am not a 'pantser' -and spent about 20 painful months trying to turn my stream-of-consciousness 3-stories-in-one into one coherent novel, following the timeline and events in the Book of Genesis. I discovered that that is not a great way to build a plot. I ended after 5 more drafts, at about 60k words. There is another draft on my blog, slightly longer, a bit more experimental.
