Colin Bridgerton realized that his feelings for Penelope Featherington were more than just friendship while he was away in Europe. Upon returning to London, he intended to court her but found that she refused to speak to him. Colin had made a hurtful comment about never courting Penelope, which he now regretted. He tried to make amends by helping her find a husband, but it was difficult for him to see her with someone else.

During a conversation in the drawing room with Colin's family, Penelope unexpectedly compliments him, causing his heart to soar. They exchanged smiles, but Penelope quickly returns to the idea of finding a suitor. Colin can't bear the thought of just being friends anymore, but will he confess his love for her?
