Barbara Gordon's life is a mess.  She has just been accepted to Gotham State University and is reluctantly forced into a relationship with one of her father's colleagues.  She soon begins to have a crush on Dick Grayson, a sophomore at the university and a childhood best friend, who constantly teases and flirts with her.  Unexpectedly, her dad is sent to jail for supposedly accepting bribes from Rupert Thorne. Between college classes and setting up a lawyer for her father, Barbara feels she is prepared for anything, except for when she receives some news that shakes her world.  Her father has been kidnapped and taken hostage!  Barbara soon deduces that something fishy is going on and decides it is time to take matters into her own hands.  She takes on the suit of Batgirl and gets ready to spread her wings and take flight.
