Dilen doesn't want to be some long lost Prince. He wants to stay on the farm in Mist's Edge, at the edge of the kingdom with the deadly mist bearing down his neck. That seems safer than marching into the capital to meet a mother he doesn't remember. 

At least his adopted brother Cyrus and childhood friend Raj is tagging along. It almost outweighs the annoying Capital Knights sent to escort him. Knight Gabriel is the worst of the lot, constantly overbearing and judgmental, intent on blaming the people that raised Dilen for his disappearance. They didn't do it.
