"Death and destruction is not your chosen path, my Lord. If you wish, you may alter that path, even when it seems set in stone."
Throughout centuries, many have been warring over the Orb Of Vitality, a shining golden orb relic that, when held, cures any ailment and grants the holder immortality.
There's just one catch: if they let it go, they die.
And for ages and ages and ages...the cycle repeated. And repeated. One man won the orb, a few hundred years later he was killed and the orb was taken by another.
It made the Empress sick of it.
So the late Empress of Bāishu devised a little kink in the system.
Using clay, stardust and a small pinch of demonic cultivation, an heir was born - something that hadn't happened in centuries due to the, "A Ruler Earns His Place, He Doesn't Just Have It Passed On" idiom around Bāishu.
And so, Huang Daiyu was created as a fully fledged young Lord with all the intelligence and wit of the Previous rulers, and now ruled over the region of Bāishu.
Many changes came along with the Lord Huang - The Position of the Keeper of Devils was reinstated, which was removed after the last Keeper Of Devils turned his power upon the Empress some five thousand years ago, and intermarriage between the 4 regions was also revived.
However, somewhere along the way, he started having some feelings for the Keeper Of Thunder, Lei Gong, somehow.
Being an artificial human, Lord Huang did not understand these changes....and the Forbidden Realm, which was ridden with evil spirits, was starting to leak.
Now.
How was he supposed to balance dealing with the Forbidden Realm, his feelings for Lord Lei, and serving his duty as an emperor?
Just when she's decided to leave the Town, Lady Cressida Belverst is forced to marry Lord Calan Haverston, the man who coincidentally knows a way out. Agreeing to marry for all the wrong reasons, can Cressida and Calan find out where their hearts truly belong?
***
It is impossible to leave the Town, but one woman is determined to escape with the help of her betrothed.
Lady Cressida Belverst has always been judged as a walking scandal. Oh, how she tries (on some rare occasions) to be proper! When her parents arrange for her to marry a rich lord, Cressida has had enough. She has to leave the Town because she will not be forced to live with a man she doesn't love. But what happens if the very man she's betrothed to is the only one who can help her get out?
Calan Haverston, the Lord of Easton, takes the risk and helps his betrothed by using his knowledge of the Town's secrets because he is as willing as she to stay free of marriage for reasons completely different. He has dark secrets he cannot share with her, and his life is not one he can likewise open to anyone. But what happens when she leaves after awakening desires he thought he has under control? And what happens when he finds himself longing for her?
Cressida goes to a completely different place, one she has only heard in stories and read in books, with hopes of finding what her heart has always longed for. But love, mystery and secrets will chase her and it will only be a matter of time before she realizes what her heart truly desires.
