Angelic Skies

Year 1400 in the world of Xaleria stands a sword. Every hundred years the sword opens a portal to another world and only one person from Xaleria may enter. The person who enters has a quest but nobody knows what it is but they send them anyways. They believe that if the person fails the portal sends back demons made of fire to ravage their earth and destroy everything the death tolls being in the 100,000 range. This year humanity has only 70,000 people especially after an unexplained military accident.
The one person who may go through is chosen by a mark on their body. Each person's mark gives them a special power. It is rare that more than one mark is given to a person and they are categorized by how powerful their mark is. Unfortunately if you are marked there is no returning to a normal life and you go through training to go through the portal. The portal in a few days and only one person really wishes to go through it.
