When Madeline Quinn makes the impulsive decision to move to Virginia to get a chance on her new life, she is excited to finally get a fresh start with her brother and her best friend. She runs into her new neighbor, Beau, who happens not to be so new after all. Beau is her brother's best friend she had a crush on in high school. She has not seen him in years. She agrees to go on one date with him and does not hear from him again. Bailey, Madeline's best friend, suggests she book a getaway by the beach for a week to help clear her head. However, the place she booked happens to belong to Beau's father. Beau decides to stay in the house at the time Madeline does. She cannot get a refund, and now must live with her childhood crush and the guy who 'ghosted' her for a week. Will her feelings rekindle? Or will she be in misery staying with the cheery boy from next door?

He doesn't stop believing the world is cruel. He just decides she shouldn't have to face it. But selective mercy has consequences. And even the well-intentioned don't escape them.
