Cort Gibson can't remember the moment everything went wrong.

He only remembers walking out of the Skyfall tunnels, burned and blood-soaked, carrying a dying man, smiling like it was the best day of his life. After that: blank space. A court-martial cleared him. Rumors say he got his team killed and murdered the hostages. Cort doesn't know which is true-and that terrifies him.

Now Cort hides aboard the Zephyr, an interstellar cargo ship bound for Atlantis, trying to outrun the scientists who need him back-alive before their secret surfaces. But sabotage kills the Zephyr's warp drive, pirates close in, and hijackers strike from within.

To buy time, Cort takes command of a state-of-the-art sentient gunship called Gunny and crews it with a Katurin pilot, an android engineer, and a Neo Cat who refuses to be left behind.

Cort has fought wars before, but this time the battle is inside him.
