Riley is a half-cloud nymph, half-Poseidon demigod who has always lived at Camp Half Blood, except for the occasional Solstice dinner and the Battle of Manhattan. She is competitive with her best friend and struggles with her fear of leaving the camp for reasons other than battles.

The most important plot points include Riley's dreams leading to a series of events, encountering dangerous monsters, arriving in Hades' palace with Constens present, battling Nyx in her palace, finding the figure from her dreams, and nearly dying in a final battle where a sacrifice results in Riley's victory.
