Tonowari's mate is Syulang, a special Navi that had been chosen by Eywa herself, born with white hair and white markings instead of her normal tattoos that Metkayina people achieve as a symbolic representation.
They have two children, Atan & Awa, the eldest being their daughter and their youngest being their son.
In this book, Ronal is mated with another, and has a special authority due to being closely connected with both the leader and spiritual leader of their clan, The Metkayina.
