"People usually find me dull and boring, you know" she said, blowing air into her palms. The winds only seemed to be getting chillier as we sat beside each other; it was getting cold.

My head found a place on her shoulder, breathing in a sense of comfort as our bodies exchanged each other's warmth. "I think. . . I don't really mind this boring."

It was hard to hide the small smile that came wrapped with my words. I heard her chuckle. And with a shake of her head, she was blowing air inton her palms again.

"That's a first."

"Is it really though?" I raised my head, squinting my eyes at her. She halted, a soft sigh escaping her lips. "Sometimes it all feels like a dream", she murmured, her grey eyes lazily glazing over to mine.

"You, me . . . us"

Rosé sighs. "I don't know how to explain it, but why would your father suddenly appear after all this time and demand you marry a stranger? And not just any stranger, but a mafia boss?" Rosé's right. None of this makes sense. My father, who barely ever showed up in my life unless he needed something, suddenly dragging me into this mess with Lisa? And a mafia boss, of all people? - Lisa immediately pulls me under the blanket again. "Just until the fever breaks," I mutter. "Sure, Jen. Whatever you say," she whispers, her voice barely audible as she drifts off again. And despite myself, I stay. When I stir awake sometime later, the room is dim, and Lisa's arm is still draped over me, holding me in place. I blink groggily, realizing I hadn't meant to fall asleep here. Lisa shifts slightly beside me but doesn't wake. Her breathing is soft, and her fever seems to have broken, but she still clings to me like I'm some kind of lifeline. I sigh quietly, rubbing my eyes. "Just this once," I remind myself again. I stir awake, feeling something wet and warm against my stomach. Still half-asleep, I absentmindedly stroke the soft head. "Good puppy," I mumble. Wait. Puppy? My eyes snap open, and there she is-Lisa, grinning mischievously, her chin resting on me. "Of course," I mutter, glaring at her. Lisa winks. "Morning." I groan. "Do you ever act normal?" "Where's the fun in that?" she teases, propping herself up on her elbows. - As I murmur against her lips, "This doesn't change anything," Lisa pauses for a moment, her breath warm against my skin. She hums in response, the sound vibrating through our connected bodies. The heat radiating from her body feels intoxicating, and I relish it, but I remind myself that love isn't on the table right now. "Just... this once," I say, punctuating my words with a gentle press of my lips against hers once more. "Yeah, just this once," she replies, a hint of mischief creeping back into her voice.

-- PROLOGUE "Let me get this straight. We have nothing in between us, except for the deal we made that day" he spoke in a monotonous tone. "I am the one carrying your name behind me; we are married. how can you say we have nothing in between us? Huh" She yelled at him, tears blurred her vision, and she spoke her heart to him. "For god's sake, this marriage was to save you! Can't you get that? I did not do it willingly, I do not love you!!" He yelled back at her, shattering her heart into pieces. "Why can't you just love me?" She spoke, as she cried the tears of hurt, and pain. Her heart thumped loudly due to the shivering sensation She felt all over her body. "I never made a commitment to you, or gave you any false hope, neither did i say that i love you. Did i?" He asked her, in a very cold tone. She looked at him through her teary eyes. It's getting difficult for her to even breathe. "It was your eyes, the damn eyes. Who gave me the false hope. They say, "Eyes speak the truth," but what about mine? Couldn't you feel the sincerity within them, expressing my deep affection for you? Why didn't you see the love shining in them? Was it too complex to understand? Couldn't you notice the warmth as they gazed at you? They search for you in every corner, If only you realized how they silently echoed the emotions I couldn't articulate. They say, "Eyes never deceive." But what about yours? They played a trick on me when they met mine, painting a facade of a world that wasn't real. They made me feel loved, Leading me into a belief that crumbled, louder than your spoken promises. Why did they betray me? Was it your eyes or you that masked the truth?" He stayed still, not moving or saying anything at her statement. --

"Are you... lost?" Someone asked, her tone impatient. I stopped scanning the room to find the woman behind the voice. I blinked. She had the most luminous blue eyes I had ever seen. Even in the dim glow of the bar they glowed brightly, like her pupils were some type of smooth stone at the bottom of a clear blue ocean. Within her blue there flickered tiny speckles of silver, which gave her an icy, somewhat stony appeal. But it was her slight, lopsided smile that erased any signs of wanting to be alone. No wonder this bar was so popular. "Uh, no," I said, holding up the Help Wanted sign I had snagged from the front window. The woman's cool eyes flickered between the sign and me. She didn't say anything, only looked slightly thoughtful as slender fingers raked through her long blonde hair. "What can you do?" She finally asked, definitely not expecting me to be able to do much of anything at all. She'd be right. "Anything and everything," I answered-lied-instantly, hoping I didn't look too desperate, didn't sound too eager. To be perfectly honest, I hadn't worked a day in my life. My hands were used to weekly manicures not hard labor. But desperate times call for desperate measures. The blonde appeared thoughtful again. Those magnificent eyes gave me a once over, slow and steady. You could see the cogs turning in her head as she considered it. I decided to try and sound more convincing. "I have many skills," I added. Okay, so I stole that from Xena, but I was hoping it worked as well for me as it did for her. The blonde lifted a sculpted brow and the smile was, once again, back on her lips. She seemed amused. Maybe she was a Xena fan? "Alright... I'll start you off cleaning the bathrooms, sweeping the floors, doing the dishes..." Crap.

"Look at you sweating" he made his way towards me and stood next to me and brushed the sweat off of my forehead, with his fingers. I shivered at his touch and he noticed that. I kept the bottle on the table and turned around to get my jug. I froze as I felt his hands snaking their way towards my waist, from inside my top. He bent and whispered "why are you feeling so much nervous around me Aanya?" near my ear and I felt like some electricity moving in my body. I was breathing heavily and was afraid to turn around as I don't know what I will do. "I - I d-dont know. It m-might b-be the j-jet lag", I replied with great difficulty without turning around. "Hmmm" I heard him near my ears. His hands started their way towards my stomach and then upwards, very close to my breasts. I was breathing heavily and whispered "Dhruv". "Yes Aanya" he replied in a husky tone. "I think you should rest as you were feeling so much tired" I somehow managed to control my emotions. "How can I just sleep when you are looking so sexy and staying next door? God Aanya, I'm trying, but seriously you are making it very difficult for me". He replied in a sensual tone. ---------------------------------------- All Aanya wanted was a guy with whom she can spend her life with. Frida started sketching something with her stylus, eyes flicking to her screen as she adjusted the axes of a diagram, mumbling, "...and then this boundary layer here starts behaving like a switch... not instant, but sharp. Sharp enough." Inés leaned in to see. "You mean like a Heaviside approximation?" Frida rolled her eyes, barely biting back a grin. "No. I mean like an actual boundary layer. I thought you said you weren't rusty." That earned her a low hum from Inés - amused, maybe a little provoked. "You want sharp? I'll give you sharp," she muttered, reaching for her own laptop, the tip of her manicured nail clicking a little too decisively on the trackpad. "You're missing the substructure that governs the transition here-see?" Frida glanced over. "That's an assumption, not a proof." "Do you want this to work or do you want it to be romantic?" Frida laughed - surprised and a little breathless. "God. Is that how you think I talk about math?" Inés tilted her head, lips curling. "Only when you're trying to seduce me with it." Frida blinked. Her ears went hot. "I'm not-" "Not trying?" Inés cut in, pretending to glance back at the diagram, feigning innocence, but there was no missing the gleam in her eye. "Shame. Because it's working." Frida looked away sharply, pressing her fingers to the corner of her mouth like she could keep a smile in by force. "You're infuriating." "You're distracted." "You're distracting." Inés made a quiet, pleased sound at that and sat back for a moment, the back of her hand brushing the edge of Frida's chair. "Tell me more about the way you're treating the constraint set when it fractures," she said finally, voice smooth again, back in control - or pretending to be. Frida inhaled and kept going, though her voice was slightly lower now, the words sticking a little as she spoke.
