University is where Blythe Morbid shines. An English literature student with the whole world ahead of her, she really is ready to face a lengthy career and a sensible relationship head-on. As long as she stays out of her competitive mother's way. And then there's Reid. Growing up with a barely-there mother and a controlling father means the darkness he holds in his chest has nowhere to go. And while his father only shows up when he needs to display his son like a trophy, Reid allows it, in exchange for letting him go to university - the one place he can pretend he's normal. But the fights are getting worse, and he's on the verge of being expelled. Given an ultimatum, he either sorts his life out, or he says goodbye to the little freedom he has, and his new obsession: Blythe.
