It starts with the murder of the protagonist's mom. The latter doesn't have a father nor siblings. She has an uncle though. However, she is not keen with him nor he doesn't treat her as a family. Her uncle didn't even help in the burial expenses of her mother. After being orphaned, the best friend of her mother who is a police detective in New York, took care of her and became her new family. Together with her aunt's husband and two sons, they tried to help the protagonist overcome her trauma.
