Sometimes...
Sometimes I have nightmares. Nightmares that I wake from in the middle of the night, sweat-soaked hair clinging to my neck as my chest heaves. Nightmares with unknown ghosts and the haunting shrieks ripping through darkness. Nightmares that are so real that I almost believe they are real. They are never real, though.
Nightmares of shooting stars made of fallen debris crumbling from a tower. Nightmares of screaming sirens and pounding feet and flashing red lights as military police fill the streets. Nightmares of tears drenching my cheeks as I scream out into the void.
And then nightmares of him laughing as hell rain down around us.
I wonder if he has nightmares too.
