Background/Introduction

Hello, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Roy. I am a half-elf and I will be 5 years old tomorrow. You are probably surprised that I can write so well at the age of five. The village doctor says: "I am extremely intelligent for my age." That's true, which is why I already go to school. I can do things like arithmetic, spelling and foreign languages, such as Aawean and Lụjan, better than the others. But other than that, I don't have it easy, because all the other children in the village are humans and they always laugh at me because I look so funny. Even some adults make fun of me or mock me - and some call me a freak or a devil's helper. The only people who believe in me and love me for who I am are my parents. Sad, isn't it? But what I have learned is that you should never stop believing in yourself and your dreams and that those who make fun of you are not friends. My parents are normal people, which is why the locals think I am a spawn of the devil. My father, Jamar Patton, is Prince Vasquez's master-at-arms. The prince is the only one besides my parents who doesn't mind me. He recently told my father that he would take me on as his godchild. The prince is very nice and, if I remember correctly, in his mid-twenties. I had resolved to stay awake until the church struck 12, which was the last minute of my fifth year. I would probably get in big trouble for this idea if I were discovered, but I'm too excited to think about it anymore. Finally, I heard the bell strike three times, meaning it was the hour, and then twelve times for 12 o'clock. I'm 5, I'm 5 years old! Hurrah!
