scarred: deeply affected or marked by mental or physical pain or injury.

That's what he was... he was scarred by her love for him.

"I love you so much," she whispered, as I cradled her crying self in my arms.

I looked down at her tearstreaken face, and then at the fresh scars on her arms; I felt a single tear escape from my eyes, too.

All I wanted to do was to scream and shout and tell her that I didn't love her.

But I didn't. I couldn't.

"I love you, too."
