In the kingdom of Evergreen, there lived a weak and clumsy knight named Lorenz. Despite his lack of skill in combat, he was known for his kind heart and unwavering loyalty to the kingdom. Lorenz had always harbored a secret crush on the beautiful Princess Arah, but he knew that she was way out of his league.

Princess Arah, on the other hand, was known for her beauty and grace, but also for her dense nature. She was completely oblivious to Lorenz's feelings for her, much to the amusement of the entire kingdom. Despite her obliviousness, Arah and Lorenz had formed a close friendship over the years, with Lorenz always there to protect her from any danger that came their way.

One day, a handsome and charming prince from a neighboring kingdom arrived at Evergreen, seeking Princess Arah's hand in marriage. The entire kingdom was abuzz with excitement, except for Lorenz, who felt a pang of jealousy in his heart. He knew that he had to do something to win Arah's heart before it was too late.

Medieval England - Year 1450: Eleanor was a poor shopkeeper's daughter whose only hope for a better life for herself and her family was to marry well. When she caught the eye of Thomas Fletcher, a royal courtier of noble blood, her family thought he was the answer to all their problems. Eleanor thought he was unattractive and rude, but she didn't have any better options as a poor commoner so she accepted his proposal. They just had to somehow convince King Henry that she was a suitable bride for Thomas so he would approve of their union, because marrying Thomas meant that she would join Henry's inner circle as a courtier. At just twenty three years old Henry had to take over as the King of England when his father passed away unexpectedly. On his first day presiding over the royal court, he was faced with a tough decision, should he approve Thomas' marriage to Eleanor, a commoner that he was almost certain was unfit to join his Royal Court? He decided the only fair way to decide was to have her stay at his castle for a week as his guest so he could see for himself if she had what it took to withstand the pressure of the life of a royal courtier. What King Henry didn't count on was the feelings that started to grow for that commoner throughout the week. She was already betrothed to someone else and even if she wasn't, a King could never marry a commoner. But he also couldn't ignore the growing need he felt inside to be with her, even if it would throw his country into a civil war and turn both of their lives upside down. He knew some things were worth fighting for. He gave me a feline smile as he stalked toward me. I backed away until my heels hit the stall wall and he took advantage of my surprise by stepping in to me, his body a mere whisper from mine. "That's good, Evelyn," he murmured and brushed a strand of hair behind my ear. My heart was pounding and I knew my face was betraying everything I was feeling. Damn him. I didn't want to feel this excited clench in my stomach. I didn't want to feel this longing for him. "What are you doing?" My voice was shakier than I would've hoped and far too breathy. "Something I've wanted to do for a very long time." *************************************************** Two hundred years after a powerful sorceress eliminated all modern technology and most of Earth's population, the people left behind live happily with no electricity, no motorized machinery - no advanced technology of any kind. However, many of them now possess magical gifts that were once considered myth. Evelyn Kentala, a talented horse trainer, is an empath and uses her gift to understand animals. Her abilities don't allow her to know the emotions of people - or so she thinks. When Broderick Ryan, the next leader of his and Evelyn's province, returns home after being gone for five years, Evelyn discovers she's much more than an empathic horse trainer. Frightening and rare abilities begin to manifest and she's left reeling when she discovers why. Evelyn and Broderick find themselves drawn to each other as they discover the secrets of her unknown past and fight to keep themselves, and their province, safe from those who wish them harm.
