During the serpentine wars the humans won and defeated and locked the serpentine underground and the great devourer defeated. What they didn't know was that the great devourer laid eggs but they did find one. They didn't know any better so they entombed the egg in its own tomb, alone.
Prologue and everything after happens after the pilots but before the first episode.
