Lyra, raised in a noble family, is one of twenty-three other children to manifest elemental spirits and is sent to the monastery to become a guardian of her country. There, she meets a mysterious boy who is not who he seems, finds a hooded figure in her scrying bowl, and struggles to manage the growing power of her spirit which no one else seems to have any problem with.
Dark secrets surrounding the monastery begin to unfold and deals are struck with dark forces outside of her control. Both people she trusts are not who she thinks they are and she must choose who to believe and whose side she truly stands on, her country's or the temple's.
