The beginning looked like darkness, and from the Darkness, the Lady Fate was born. For millenia, she ruled, creating at her whim, and taking away as she saw fit, spinning the Fates of millions. For Humankind, magic is all but a legend, invented to scare children into staying in at night, and to give people a reason to dream of a higher purpose in life. But for Fate's most loved creation, her Arcana, it is a burden, causing a constant struggle for power in the Arcane World, wild, unpredictable.

Maeve Segret has been on the run for most of her life, having taken refuge in the Human World after fleeing from the Arcane World in a rebellion that nearly destroyed everything the Arcana worked for. Descended from the ancient Ruling House of the Arcana, she is hunted for the abilities she possesses, as well as the power they are capable of unlocking. But when a betrayal rocks the thin safety she has managed to create, Maeve finds herself thrust headfirst into the world she has been running from for so long.

Ancient Evil lurks in the shadows of the Arcane World, looking to bring power tumbling to its knees. War threatens, magic runs wild, and no one is safe. Maeve reluctantly finds herself as one of few left capable of standing in the way of her enemies goals. And they will do anything they can to get their way.
