Shadow's Salvation

Ailen Baerwood is twenty-one. The year is 1944. Her best friend and more, James Buchanan 'Bucky' Barnes is drafted into the ever-growing war. Ailen, being the stubborn girl she is, promised that they were equals and she could do what he did. Unfortunately, that promise is one no one could keep.
Until it could. Newly-changed Steve came to the bar where she was after rescuing the 107th. Bucky was with him. The pair was reunited and Ailen was offered a place with the Howling Commandos. She was finally one of them. One of the powerful soldiers she dreamed of becoming.
Until that fateful afternoon when a Hydra agent blew a hole in the side of that train, and Bucky was dumb enough to get himself thrown out of that hole. Once again, Ailen's attempt to be a hero backfires as both of them fall, and she becomes the one thing she tried so hard not to be.
