May 23, 2009. The day that Grayson and Miranda Gilbert died, in a tragic car accident at Wickery Bridge in their hometown, Mystic Falls. Elena Gilbert, their daughter, was also in the car. But somehow she survived. Since that day Elena and her younger brother Jeremy became orphans. But their aunt Jenna, Miranda's sister, moved to Mystic Falls to take care of Elena and Jeremy. She takes her 17-year-old daugther, Tatum Sommers, with her. But what they didn't know was that at the same time they moved to town, another mystery arrived, named Stefan Salvatore. Little did they know that their lives we're about to change, for ever.
