Founded in 1968 by a man named Stephen White, Providence Academy is a middle-through-high school dedicated to helping troubled youth and teaching intelligent children.

 While Mayes Boo may be intelligent, that's not necessarily why he attends this school. After some problems at his previous middle school and a couple diagnoses, Mayes is sent to Providence Academy freshman year. Things have been going seemingly swell, except for the fact that Mayes doesn't seem to want to heal.
 
 The new school year is approaching, and dorm arrangements are changing. Will Mayes' new roommates finally be able to help him? Or will he continue down the dark slope he's following?
