When the king of Kerch, Kaz Brekker, has a guard die in conflict, he must find someone to replace him, and quickly. War is raging and he cannot afford to have any average guard protecting him.

Enter Inej Ghafa, a spy for the crown for the past 6 years. She was done with trivial matters, she wanted action and wanted to be involved in something. So, she applied for the position... and got it.

Now, Kaz not only must protect his citizens from the war, but also figure out a way to deal with his slowly developing (and confusing) feelings for the new member of his guard.

An event causes you to expose something you were never aware of but how can there be two if there was only one written in the myths.
