Lars Oomen is an adrenaline junkie teenager who seeks thrills in illegal motorcycle racing. He grew up in a lavish family and planned his future in the rocket industry. But what he never imagined was that his father's first experimental rocket launch would not only turn his life upside down, but the whole world.

That night, the Hailing Stars fall, and everyone it reaches gains special abilities. The immortal, destructive Phoenixes are born, and Lars is one of them. But special abilities aren't so great when the entire society is chasing their bearers.
