A group of alien races, inhabiting the same fantasy-type world, develop faster-than-light travel via magic portal. Due to the mana cost in maintaining such portals for long periods of time, in order to get closer to their first chosen planet of conquest, Earth, which will drastically lower the mana cost of smaller portals to Earth in the long run, they pool their mana resources to create one portal, big enough to cover their planet, and move the planet into the outer edges of the Sol system, beyond even Pluto. Then they take time to recover, thinking the magically-impaired humans, which at the time are in the neolithic era just discovering agriculture, wouldn't advance nearly as much or as fast as they had. And they waited for around 13,000 years.
