John Igarashi, an American-Japanese individual residing within Japan in the small town of Kuoh, is what Japanese people would refer to as a Hikikomori. Because of his belligerent and anti-social behavior, people tended to draw away from him, which he greatly preferred. That is until an encounter with a certain ebony-haired school girl which flung him into a life he never wanted.
