Her life was finally normal again. His life could never be normal. Ley got a new job, moved out of her old apartment and everything was ever so quiet. She seemed to enjoy the routine her life regained, but a part of her felt hollow. The anchor she left on Brian had been deteriorating with each day that passed. With time, she started to feel lighter and more free, allowing herself to forget about him. She was ready to let go of the thoughts that haunted her time and time again: "Was he still alive?" So, when she finally sees him after a long year, she doesn't believe her eyes. Every word, every touch, every kiss, and every emotion she had erased, returns to her in that single moment. Why did Brian stay away from her? Why did he come back now? Was he about to drag Ley into the wreckage that was his life again? Will their love be enough to keep them together, no matter the sacrifices?

Sword still in her hands, she stomped her foot again. "Why are you smiling?" Brainwashed? Check. Sheltered? Check. Lost and alone? Check and, uh, check. That about summed Megan up. Banished from the heavens-kicked out-same thing-everyone thought for sure that this was it for her. Of course, no one had taken the demon King into account. He shrugged. "Because I'm happy." "Why?" She asked. "Because I find you endearing." "Why?" Desperate? Damn straight. Loved up? Beyond recognition. Prepared to rip anybody and everybody's throat out at any given moment for looking at her wrong? Absolutely. Claudio had waited far too long for his mate. Nothing was getting in the way of their forever. Not life. Not death. Certainly not a war that she'd be heading. "Because I've waited a long time for this. I'm going to explain to you what it means to be a... mate."
