Lost Days

(This is an original story. It has a lot of similar things from some dystopian movies, so please don't come at me!)

A low, rhythmic hum echoed in the darkness. It pulsed steadily, a sound too mechanical to be natural, too cold to be comforting. E-16 stirred, his head pounding like a drumbeat against his skull. His eyes flickered open, the harsh glow of overhead lights blinding him for a moment.

He sat up slowly, his limbs heavy and unfamiliar, as if they belonged to someone else. The room around him was sparse and clinical. The walls gleamed a metallic gray, devoid of warmth or life, and faint blue strips of light outlined the edges of the ceiling and floor. The air was thick with a sterile, chemical tang that stung his nostrils.

E-16 blinked hard, trying to focus. His head was a foggy mess, a whirlwind of half-formed thoughts and questions. One, in particular, rose to the surface like a drowning man gasping for air.
