After being bullied, belittled, and abuse in their foster home, Taiki starts to get visions and dreams of other world. A video game like world with magic, and technology, after a Mirror reflects a default character and more bullying. Taiki presses the button to join the "game world" and using a door, which had suddenly became Very Heavy, he leaves his world behind forever. And ends up subconsciously trading his bad memories of his world for skill points, upgrade points, and a proficiency with shotguns.

Entering the world there were some oddities the Assistant Guardian noted about Taiki's character. How it was 90% completed on arrival, how his status plate read "Forgot some memories" instead of "Sold some memories." And the most weird "Forgot he was a he, guess he's a she now." It was weird enough for her to quit her job as assistant and become Taiki's (now named Emiko) personal companion.
