Labrea spent her whole life in the shadow of Snow White. The only person who ever gave her attention and cared about her was Regina. Then she betrayed Labrea by trying to kill Snow.
Snow wasnt a bad sister. She tried to include her younger sister but people could be cruel. Snow saw an opportunity to make her sister happy when they met David. Despite the obvious tension between the two Snow could see how perfect the two were for each other.
Things worked out between Labrea and David. They'd fallen in love with one another so whole heartedly they wouldn't leave the others side. Until Davids father threatened Labrea life and David and Snow had to betray her so she could be safe. Labrea was heartbroken by her sister and lovers betrayal.
She was planing on joining Regina and destroying David and Snow but rhen she fell pregnant and her entire being become solely around her little girl.
Rumplestiltskin told Snow and David that a child would be their salvation. Mistakenly they thought it was their child but Labrea knew it was her and David's hidden three year old daughter, Ruth. She didnt want her child to be taken advantage of by Regina so she helped Snow and david build the wardrobe to save their baby whilst also making sure that the second spot in the tree was reserved for Ruth secretly.
28 years later RJ and Emma come to Storybrooke where a little boy tells RJ she's the savior that the town needs.

Emma didn't even try to suck up to the mayor, she didn't care about Henry's stories of her evil-doing, though she did believe him. She wasn't scared of Regina, so she had no love to fight.
